Alaska Airports Association (AKAA)
CHARTER
1. Purpose and Goals: The purpose of the Alaska Airports Association is to enhance and promote the operation and management of airports within the State of Alaska. The goals of the Association are to:

Provide for the exchange of ideas and problem-solving among airport operators, airport commissioners, airport users, government agencies, and others to support the operation and management of airports.

Create, promote, and support education opportunities for airport managers, airport staff, airport commissioners, and others that affect airport operation and management.

Promote and encourage the public’s understanding of the value of airports and aviation in Alaska and local communities.

Foster the advancement and improvement of airports and aviation in Alaska

Participate in meetings, activities and organizations representing the interests of airports and aviation.
2. Membership: The Membership of the Association shall be open to all airports, airport associations, government agencies and individuals that meet the requirements of one membership class described below:

General Membership shall be open to persons exercising active responsibility for the management, planning, general superintendence or administration of a public or a privately owned airport. Management membership shall be composed of Airport Managers, Airport Staff, Airport Commission Members, planners or others approved by the Association.

Associate Membership shall be open to associations, chambers, groups, organizations, societies, government agencies, businesses, and airport users whose role is compatible with the interests of the Association.
3. Membership Voting Authority: Only General Membership shall vote on association business, with each General Member having one vote. The Secretary shall maintain a current list of association members. Members may be added to the association upon receipt and approval of the application for membership by the Executive Committee.
4. Officers: The Association shall elect a Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer from the current member list to serve a term of two years. The officers shall be elected by a vote of the general members of the Association. The officer’s duties are:
Chair: The Chair participates in meetings relevant to the goals of the Association, plans and presides over the meetings of the Association, and serves as the spokesperson for the Association.
Vice-Chair: The Vice-Chair serves as the Chair in his or her absence and assists in planning.
Secretary/Treasurer: The Secretary/Treasurer keeps minutes, publishes and distributes minutes to all members, maintains the current members list and other records of the Association. The Secretary/Treasurer serves as the Chair in the absence of the Chair and Vice-Chair.
5. Executive Committee: The officers of the Association will serve as the Executive Committee and deal with any business other than amendments to the Charter. All members will be notified of an Executive Committee meeting and purpose of the meeting a minimum of five days prior to the meeting. Any member is welcome to participate. Minutes of the Executive Committee meetings shall be kept and distributed to the executive committee within 10 days of all meetings. The executive committee shall adopt and distribute the meeting minutes to all members within 30 days of the meeting.
6. Association General Meetings: The Association shall hold a general meeting of the membership at least once per year. Meeting notices will be distributed to all Association members at least 30 days prior to the proposed meeting. The meeting notice shall include the meeting agenda. Minutes of the Association General Meetings shall be kept and distributed to the Executive Committee within 10 days of the general meeting. The executive committee shall consider all comments submitted within 30 days of the meeting. The executive committee shall adopt and distribute the meeting minutes to the membership within 30 days of the meeting.
7. Effective Date: This Charter shall be effective on March 1, 2009.
